Prior to the season, New Orleans Saints running back Alvin Kamara made it clear he wanted an extension from the team. However, for whatever reason, the Saints weren’t on board. Kamara didn’t make much of a fuss, though, deciding to focus on the football and put in work this season.

Through four weeks, that’s exactly what he has done. Kamara is stringing together another elite season, making the critics who said he was on the decline look silly. He isn’t just playing good, though, he has been one of the best offensive players in the league.

Entering Week 5, Kamara is leading the NFL in scrimmage yards with 536, and is tied for the lead in touchdowns with six.

Kamara’s 536 yards from scrimmage is 11 more than Derrick Henry who is second on the list. Just like in past years, the Saints running back has been effective on the ground and through the air, rushing for 362 yards and a league-leading five rushing touchdowns, and catching 17 passes for 174 yards and an additional touchdown.

He’s a big reason why New Orleans’ offense has been productive as it has been this season, and he’ll be a key reason why they win more games this year. Now, it’s time for the Saints to make sure he’s around to lead the team to victories in future years.

Still, playing at an elite level, Kamara clearly has a lot left in the tank. Additionally, he has made it clear he doesn’t want to be anywhere else but New Orleans. He’s going out every week, putting it all on the line for the team, and even playing through injury. It’s time for the Saints to do what’s right and pay him what he deserves.
