Jordyn Tyson isn't close to returning to the field, and Kellen Moore all but said that in a press conference last week. He told reporters there was no expectation at the moment to see Tyson on the field for practice ahead of the week 5 game vs the Minnesota Vikings. We now have a rough estimate of when the New Orleans Saints will get their first round pick back.

The latest report ESPN's Adam Schefter sets Week 7 as the earliest point of return but sets Week 9 as the most likely return date for Tyson. Schefter points to the trip to Paris in Week 7 and ensuing bye week as reasons the Saints could hold Tyson out until Week 9.

A debut against the Cleveland Browns would allow for the rookie to make his NFL debut in front of a home crowd, and the way the Saints have played in front of the fans the last two weeks, a Tyson debut may be the spark the building needs. Additionally, the Paris field is a question mark, so saving him until he can play a familiar surface may be smart for a player returning from a hamstring injury.

At least Saints fans have clarity about Jordyn Tyson

There's been a lot of uncertainty around Tyson, so fans are probably used to the drill by now. He was absent through offseason activities, and we weren't sure when he would return. Then he turned up for training camp.

For a long time, this felt like a similar situation. Schefter's report gives a relative timeline for Saints fans to form their expectations.

There's been two benchmarks to look at for Tyson: the injured reserve timeline and initial injury recovery timeline. The injured reserve timeline would have him back at practice this week. This report on Monday doubles down on Tyson not returning.

A Week 9 return puts Tyson a tad bit behind the two month schedule that was originally reported, but that's also partially because of the timing of the Saints bye week. Two months post-injury would have Tyson returning to practice the week of the Week 6 showdown with the Giants.

It's important to note the rookie hasn't practiced all season, so his return to the field should be viewed as a return to practice, not live action. The expectation should be at least a week of practice before Tyson debuts in live action.

That would put the best case scenario at Tyson returning for the Week 7 game against the Giants. (refer to paragraphs 2 and 3 please.)

Week 9 is still later than fans were hoping to see Tyson, but there's at least a bit of an idea of what to expect. We've spent the last two months unsure of how the receiver is progressing or when we would see him. If nothing else, fans have clarity.
