Jordyn Tyson has existed in this weird space since suffering a hamstring injury during the New Orleans Saints' joint practice with the Jacksonville Jaguars. He was given an extended recovery time, and we haven't received much solid information on his recovery since. We've just been basing our predictions of his return on the original timeline, and Kellen Moore gave clarity on the situation.
Moore told reporters the Saints will make a decision on whether or not Tyson will practice this week on Wednesday. It's a pre-announcement to the announcement, but because it came directly from Moore it holds more weight.
We've heard Tyson is doing well or would return soon before, but soon can mean anything. What we haven't heard before Monday is anything concrete on days he could return to practice. It's only been reports, and if the team is at the point where Tyson returning to practice is a decision they need to make, then his return should be viewed as imminent.
Jordyn Tyson practicing doesn't mean he'll play versus the Browns
We know the Saints are taking a cautious approach, so that should remain in the back of your mind even if Tyson does practice. The rookie receiver seeing the practice field should not be viewed as confirmation of him playing.
The practice window for a player returning from injured reserve before he must return to live action is three weeks. It shouldn't surprise a soul if the Saints decide to take the entire three weeks before activating Tyson for game action. That would put the latest game for him to debut as the Week 12 matchup vs. the Cincinatti Bengals.
Moore's update is certainly exciting, but it should still be approached with a bit of cautious optimism. Even without taking the full three weeks for Tyson, Wednesday would be his first time practicing in nearly three months. Him being ready to play a game after just three practices is far from a forgone conclusion.
Tyson has certainly been missed in the Saints receiving corps. Though maybe you can't miss what you never had, the idea of what Tyson was supposed to provide is missed. It's natural to be eager around his return.
Mickey Loomis cooled off the hype before the bye week, but Moore's comments this week continue to paint the picture of a player who is improving and getting close to a return. He also made it a point to say Tyson hasn't suffered any setbacks or reinjured his hamstring during the process.
The Saints have just been extremely cautious, and fans shouldn't expect that caution to disappear once Tyson is healthy enough to practice.
