Jets could be taking more than Aaron Glenn from the Saints if they hire him

The New York Jets could take Aaron Glenn off the list of candidates for the New Orleans Saints, and they also could be planning to take another coach as well.

In recent days, NFL reporters have made it clear that Detroit Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn will likely end up as a head coach for the New Orleans Saints or the New York Jets. Glenn played with both franchises, and also spent time with each team in his post-playing career— a scout for the Jets and a secondary coach for the Saints.

New York currently has the upper hand in the pursuit of Glenn, because he met with the team in-person on Tuesday. He was originally scheduled to have an in-person interview with the Saints on Wednesday, but the weather in New Orleans led to that being rescheduled. With the Jets hoping to hire Glenn before he even gets to New Orleans, they’ll have a little extra time to do so.

If New York is successful in taking the Saints’ top candidate, it could also be taking someone else from New Orleans. Zack Rosenblatt of The Athletic is reporting that Saints’ offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak is a name in the mix to join Glenn’s staff if he’s hired by the Jets.

That would be a tough scene for the Saints. You have to imagine that Glenn would also want to have Kubiak in New Orleans, as well, and that would make things much easier for the team. Seeing both end up in New York together would be a painful experience.

Kubiak has already interviewed for multiple offensive coordinator jobs this offseason, and there’s a belief that he has the chance to get the role with the Seattle Seahawks. This became clear earlier in the offseason, so New Orleans has been preparing for the possibility of losing Kubiak. However, losing him to the coach that you missed out on is a much different reality.

Hopefully, that’s a reality the Saints don’t have to face, and they’re ultimately able to land Aaron Glenn and retain Klint Kubiak.
