This season has already been really bad for the New Orleans Saints, and somehow, it keeps getting worse. On Sunday, the Saints lost to the Los Angeles Rams 21-14, but even more disheartening, Taysom Hill was carted off the field late in the game, and he was very visibly distraught.

Shortly after the game, reports emerged that the fear was a significant, season-ending knee injury. After more tests on Monday morning, that fear was confirmed. NFL insider Ian Rapoport reported that Hill suffered an ACL injury with other damage. It’s extremely heartbreaking news for one of New Orleans’ key veterans.

Hill has battled multiple injures this season, appearing in just eight games. However, he has remained extremely productive for the Saints, rushing for 278 yards and six touchdowns, and catching 23 passes for 187 yards. He also returned kicks and threw a few passes. Now, his season is finished, and the question becomes about his future.

An ACL injury with additional damage is hard at any point of a career, but Hill is 35 years old, eight years deep into his career, and has had multiple lower body injuries. With one season remaining on his contract, it was clear his time in New Orleans was nearing an end. Now, it’s fair to ask if he has played his final snap for the team and in the NFL.

If this is indeed the end, it’s a horrible ending to a great story. From the injury to the lack of team success this season, things should have gone better for Hill and the rest of the Saints veterans on the roster. Instead, New Orleans had another underwhelming season, with a ton of heartbreaking injuries, and now the team will likely turn the page to a new era.
