The New Orleans Saints haven’t had much success since Drew Brees retired. The future Hall of Famer last played in the 2020 season, and that’s also the last time the Saints made the playoffs. Since then, it has been nothing but mediocre seasons in New Orleans.

The 2024 season has been the worst year yet, in the post-Brees era. The Saints had a seven-game losing streak, and fired their head coach in the middle of the season. The team has since gone 3-1 after Darren Rizzi took over as interim head coach, and they’ll probably finish the year with another average record. However, that’s not the standard in New Orleans.

During Brees’ time as the starting quarterback for the Saints, making the playoffs was the bare minimum; the team started every season with Super Bowl aspirations. Currently, New Orleans is far from that. As a result, there isn’t much optimism amongst fans about the future. However, Brees is hopeful about the direction of the franchise.

The former quarterback recently sat down with Fox News, and he shared some thoughts about the team. He explained that the firing of Dennis Allen was necessary since the team was struggling how it was, but he still believes New Orleans is a very functional organization, with good veteran leadership, that can get things turned around.

"An organization that knows what it means to put the best product on the field, have a great culture, be able to overcome adversity. Unfortunately, they were on a trend where they had a lot of losses in a row, it wasn’t working, a change needed to be made. Those things happen, but if you ask the leadership on the team, they’re all trending in the right direction right now if they can stay healthy."

Drew Brees believes the Saints can get things turned around

While fans have the utmost respect for Brees, they aren’t trying to hear this message, even if he’s the messenger. Things have drastically changed since he retired, and success is no longer the norm in New Orleans. Of course Brees is going to speak highly of the organization, but fans are ready to see change.

From the front office, to the coaching staff, to the roster, Saints fans want a rebuild, so the franchise can once again experience the kind of success that was commonplace when Drew Brees was playing.
