Sunday’s win over the Atlanta Falcons was a big game for New Orleans Saints running back Alvin Kamara. It was the veteran running back’s first game as a captain this season, and he also became the franchise’s all-time leading rusher in the first quarter of the game.

However, these sentimental moments of celebration were almost overshadowed by the most embarrassing moment of Kamara’s career. With a chance to put the game away, the Saints called the prefect play on a late third down to get Alvin Kamara wide open for a game-sealing touchdown.

However, he dropped the ball, and gave Atlanta a chance to win the game. Fortunately, the defense was able to shut the door.

As soon as Kamara came to the podium after the game, he kicked things off by saying he embarrassed everyone by not catching the pass, calling it “the lamest thing” he’s ever done in his life. He was thrilled to ultimately get the win, though, in what he admitted was a special day.

Prior to the game, Darren Rizzi made Kamara a captain. The interim head coach explained that the veteran running back exemplifies what a captain is in his leadership, his practice habits, and everything else. So on Sunday, it was only right Kamara took the field with the C on his chest.

Quarterback Derek Carr echoed that sentiment, explaining how the team erupted when Kamara was named captain, because they felt it was overdue.

That was just the start of a special day, though. Kamara also passed Mark Ingram in Saints rushing yards, becoming the franchise’s all-time leading rusher. The veteran running back admitted it was a very special moment.

Alvin Kamara says becoming Saints’ all-time leading rusher is special

Kamara tends to downplay many of his accomplishments and individual accolades, but that wasn’t the case on Sunday. After revealing that Rizzi gave him the game ball, he says he told the team that this accomplishment is very special to him.

He explained that the moment is a reminder of how much football he played, and how many people have helped him along the way. He also, again, showed love to New Orleans, saying how great it is to be in one city so long, especially a city like New Orleans that he loves.

This all created a moment, that Alvin Kamara said he’ll make sure it cherish.
