The relationship between Derek Carr and the New Orleans Saints’ new head coach Kellen Moore doesn’t seem to be off to a great start. Before Moore even took the job, there was a report that he wasn’t thrilled about New Orleans’ quarterback room. Still, he was announced as the Saints head coach on Thursday.
During his introductory press conference, he was asked several questions about Derek Carr. Of course, in typical coach fashion, Moore was noncommittal on Carr being the team’s starter, but who could blame him. Carr’s future in New Orleans is up in the air, and the decision won’t solely be made by Moore.
Kellen Moore handled the questions as best as possible, and even expressed that he’s excited to get to know Carr and go through this process with him. While the two will get to know each other on a new level now, they aren’t entirely strangers. They faced off in college back in 2011, with Moore’s Boise State team defeating Carr’s Fresno State squad 57-7.
This fun fact has been brought up a lot since Moore was first linked to the Saints, and Carr’s family doesn’t seem all that excited about it. Darren Carr, Derek’s brother, took to social media to share more fun historical facts about the two quarterbacks, and it was just a comparison showing that Derek Carr’s professional career has been significantly better than Moore’s.

Derek Carr’s brother trolls Kellen Moore
This seems a bit odd to post, considering that Moore is now Derek Carr’s head coach, but Darren insisted that the post was made just because they don’t like Boise. Understandable; college rivalries get serious. While this may seem like poor timing since Carr and Moore are starting a new relationship, Darren Carr is his own person, so his statements shouldn’t necessarily be viewed as him speaking for his brother.
His brother does, however, need to speak with Kellen Moore. The Saints must decide before the start of free agency if they want to keep Derek Carr or move on. Moore getting to know the veteran quarterback, and evaluating him, will be a big part of that decision, so it’s time for them to start the process.
