There are a few universal signs in the NFL that things are going really bad for a team. One of those signs is players’ family members speaking out about the team. From parents to spouses to siblings, it’s something that happens every NFL season. Unfortunately, it’s now happening with the New Orleans Saints.

On Monday, the Saints lost their third straight game, falling to the Kansas City Chiefs 26-13. During the game, Chris Olave’s brother, Josh, took to social media with a simple question: “1 target?” It was late in the game, New Orleans was struggling to get going offensively, and their No. 1 receiver only had one target. Josh Olave, along with many other fans and analysts, wanted to know why that was the case.

Olave ultimately finished the game with two receptions on four targets for 10 yards. However, two of his targets came on the final drive, when Jake Haener came in for an injured Derek Carr.

On Tuesday, head coach Dennis Allen was asked about the post from Olave’s brother, and he didn’t get defensive, instead admitting that everyone is frustrated in the offense's inability to get things rolling.

Dennis Allen speaks on Chris Olave’s lack of targets

Allen is right; everyone is frustrated. Olave and his family should definitely feel a way, because the third-year receiver has been proving himself as a go-to wideout. It’s one thing for him not to be targeted when the offense is putting up points, but for him not to get any targets when the offense is struggling is indefensible.

Prior to Week 5, Chris Olave put together three strong performances. In Week 4, he was targeted 10 times, and caught eight passes for 87 yards. A week before that, he caught all six of his targets for 86 yards and a touchdown. In Week 2, Olave was targeted six times, catching 4 passes for 81 yards. He was targeted just twice in Week 1, and caught both passes for 11 yards, but it wasn’t a big deal because the Saints scored 47 points.

Simply put, when the ball is thrown his way, good things tend to happen. Allen knows that, Olave’s brother knows that, and so does everybody else. Whatever the reason for his lack of targets, New Orleans needs to make sure it doesn’t happen again.
