Colin Cowherd missed the mark on his Dennis Allen prediction
In late August, Colin Cowherd of "The Herd" made a prediction about New Orleans Saints head coach Dennis Allen. Cowherd predicted that Allen would be the first head coach to lose his job this season, noting that the Falcons and Panthers were both much better teams.
Yes, the same Panthers who the Saints absolutely destroyed in Week 1 are better than the Saints. Either way, Cowherd was wrong with his prediction. The first head coach to lose his job in 2024 was Robert Saleh, who was axed by the New York Jets on Tuesday morning.
How do you like them apples, Cowherd?
All jokes aside, Saints fans probably wouldn't be mad had Cowherd been correct with his prediction. Allen has been incredibly underwhelming since taking over as the head coach following Sean Payton's departure in early 2022. Allen has gone 18-21 and the team continues to be a tough unit to figure out.
Colin Cowherd was wrong about which head coach would be the first to get fired
The Saints got off to a 2-0 start, blowing out the Panthers and Cowboys in back-to-back weeks and making people wonder if they had doubted Allen and the Saints. The team quickly fell back down to earth with humbling losses to the Eagles and Falcons to drop them to .500.
After a 13-point loss to the Chiefs on Monday Night Football for everyone to watch in primetime, Saints fans remember exactly why they were excited to hear Cowherd's prediction. One would have to think that if the Saints continue to falter down the stretch that Allen would be relieved of his duties but perhaps the front office will think that he's deserving of finishing out the year.
More Saints news
It's been disappointing to see the Saints become such an irrelevant team since Payton left. Allen was a great defensive coordinator but some people are great coordinators but not good head coaches. We can officially say that Allen falls into that category now.
Sorry Cowherd, for once we were hoping you'd be right on the mark with your take but better luck next time.
