The New Orleans Saints have hosted some of the best defensive players in NFL history over the last few decades, but no player is more entwined with this franchise than Cam Jordan. The former first-round pick has been a member of the Saints for all 15 of his NFL seasons, though there was a chance that his time in Louisiana was coming to a close.
Jordan put thoughts of him leaving New Orleans to bed, as he signed a one-year, incentive-laden contract with the Saints that will bring him back for the 2026 season. With the Saints eyeing a division title in a wide-open NFC South, getting Jordan back as a key member of Kellen Moore and Brandon Staley's new-look defensive line.
Jordan has earned the right to chase a championship after years of service on Saints teams that were very far away from that ultimate goal. With this move, however, Jordan is now one step closer to becoming one of the few future Hall of Fame players who spend the entirety of their very long career with just one team.
Saints bring back DL Cam Jordan for 16th season with one year contract
The Cal product has been named to eight Pro Bowls and three All-Pro teams during his time with the Saints. Not only has Jordan been one of the best run-defending edge rushers in the league throughout his tenure with the Saints, but his 132 sacks rank 22nd on the all-time list. Jordan could pass some legends on that list in 2026.
Jordan is still an effective player, as his 10.5 sacks in 17 games last season show. Another 10.5 sack season would put him in the Top 10 across NFL history, passing names like Lawrence Taylor, Michael Strahan, and Saints great Rickey Jackson. He's done all this while largely being criminally underrated by the larger football landscape.
The Saints' defensive line outside of Jordan is still a bunch of young players hoping to put it all together. Chase Young is trying to recapture his elite form, and two former top picks in Bryan Bresee and Tyree Wilson are running out of time to prove they can be a difference-maker. Jordan can be a force multiplier for this unit.
In the same way that it would have been brutal to imagine Drew Brees wearing any other jersey if he had decided to leave New Orleans during the last few seasons of his career, Jordan wearing something other than black and gold would be tough to stomach.
