The New Orleans Saints start mandatory minicamp on Tuesday, but that won't even be the biggest story of the day. Terron Armstead broke news that Jordan will be flying to New Orleans with the intention of discussing a deal.

Armstead made it clear there's nothing set in stone. This isn't a situation where both sides are simply looking to finalize details. There's a real conversation that needs to be had. The dominos stand a good chance of falling quickly, but there is still negotiating that needs to happen.

This is the best update we've had on the matter. We've always believed both sides wanted to make this work. However, this is the first time resolution has felt close. It's been the longest running story of the offseason, and it's been difficult to read at times. Hopefully, the wondering and speculation can be done.

The Saints NEED Cam Jordan back

Armstead was joined by NewOrleans.Football's Nick Underhill, and Underhill made a great point that this is more than just a sentimental signing. With Jordan being a legend with a decade and a half of experience, it's easy to focus on bringing him back from a what's right standpoint. Put emotion aside and it's a smart football decision.

Underhill correctly stated, "bringing Cam back ain't a ceremonial thing. That's a guy that can help a football team. The numbers speak for themselves." As Underhill pointed out, Jordan had 10.5 sacks while only playing 54% of the snaps. It was his most productive season in years. The Saints owe it to themselves to see if it's a flash in a pan or a late push in a new offense. Calaias Campbell shows defensive lineman can stay productive late in the career.

Looking at the Saints edge rusher room, it's a lot of question marks behind Chase Young. Carl Granderson hasn't shown the consistency you'd like out of your secondary pass rusher. There's good rotational pieces for the Saints, but they don't have another player you'd predict would get 10 sacks other than Young,

You'd have to imagine his most recent production and questions behind Young give Jordan a little bit of leverage in negotiations.
