Cam Jordan’s return to Saints is likely a sign of what’s to come for Alvin Kamara

With Cam Jordan returning to the New Orleans Saints for one more year, fans should have an idea of Alvin Kamara’s future with the team.

The New Orleans Saints were at a crossroads this season as a franchise, turning the page to a new era, and deciding whether or not some beloved veterans would be apart of that era. The two stars who this decision was clearly the toughest for was Cam Jordan and Alvin Kamara.

Jordan was a free agent, so it was unclear if he would re-sign, and Kamara has one year left on his deal, so the running back being traded or released is a possibility. However, on Tuesday, Jordan re-signed with the Saints on a one-year, incentive-filled contract, and announced his return by saying, “One city, one team, one final season.”

While Jordan and Kamara have their own situations, New Orleans deciding to bring the veteran defender back for one more year likely means that Alvin Kamara isn’t going anywhere.

Alvin Kamara remaining with Saints seems likely after Cam Jordan’s return

Anyone who has paid attention to how New Orleans does business as a franchise shouldn’t be surprised that Jordan has been welcomed back for one final year. One thing the Saints have proven is that they are a pretty loyal franchise. For the most part, the team does right by long tenured veterans, and New Orleans rarely forces them out the door.

The Saints just gifted Jordan the opportunity to be a one helmet player, and that same courtesy will likely be extended to Kamara. The veteran running back has made it clear how much he loves the Saints and the city of New Orleans, and he has repeatedly emphasized that he doesn’t want to play anywhere else.

However, Kamara has also made it clear that he wants to play out the final year of his contract, even though the Saints just paid Travis Etienne Jr. a four-year deal worth $52 million. That has complicated things for New Orleans and the franchise has been honest about that reality.

Still, Kamara has shown up and continued to express his commitment to the Saints, so the decision will ultimately be in the hands of the franchise. Again, considering how New Orleans does business, with Cam Jordan’s return being the latest example, the Saints are probably going to let Kamara finish out his contract, and possibly career, in New Orleans in 2026.
