The 2025 Combine is officially over, and the defensive backs had some of the most impressive performances of the week. The group was highlighted by the performances of Nick Emmanwori and Maxwell Hairston, but that’s not all who impressed. Several prospects made their names known to teams in need of defensive backs.
One of those teams is the New Orleans Saints. With Marshon Lattimore gone and the future of Paulson Adebo uncertain, grabbing a defensive back is a must. Fortunately, it’s a deep group, and the Saints will have several to choose from. Here are a few they could go after.
Cornerbacks
Darien Porter
Darien Porter showcased his athleticism with a strong showing on Friday. He ran the second-fastest 40-yard dash of the day at 4.3. He followed that up with a 36.5” vertical jump and a 10’11” broad jump. In total this equated to a 9.99 relative athletic score (RAS) which ranks fourth among the last 2,500 cornerbacks. Porter looked smooth in the drills. For his size he moved and changed directions well. He may not have ample experience but with his size and athleticism he is an intriguing prospect for teams looking for a press cornerback.
Maxwell Hairston
Maxwell Hairston took full advantage of his opportunity and established himself among the top cornerbacks in the class. He ran a blazing 4.28 40-yard dash. The former Kentucky Wildcat was expected to run fast, but not a 4.28. He put up a 39.5” vertical jump to go along with his stellar run. Hairston impressed in drills. Along with the speed, his footwork was sound. He was changing directions well and reeling in catches. Undoubtedly, Hairston improved his stock, possibly reaching into the first round.
Trey Amos
Trey Amos didn’t run as fast as others but his 4.43 was exactly what he needed. The biggest question surrounding Amos was his speed. Scouts didn’t know if he could keep up with NFL wide receivers. He answered this on his first attempt, running a formidable time. With this number, his stock is likely solidified on early day two.
Safeties
Nick Emmanwori
The Combine is only halfway done but Nick Emmanwori may already be the biggest winner. Everyone knew the 6’3”, 220 pound safety was athletic, but not to this extent. Emmanwori started off the day with an insane 43” vertical jump and 11 '6” broad jump. Shortly after he posted a stellar 4.38 40-yard dash. This easily earned him a perfect 10 RAS score. He ranked first out of 1,087 strong safeties with that score. He didn’t participate in the field drills but he didn’t need to. Emmanwori is now in contention for being the first safety off the board.
Billy Bowman Jr.
On first look all fans see is an undersized safety, only being 5 '9". However, Bowman proved to be much more than that. He showed off his athleticism while running a 4.42 40-yard dash then followed it up jumping 35.5” for his vertical. His most impressive moments were during the on-field drills. There wasn’t a prospect who was a smoother mover than Bowman. His footwork was impeccable which allowed him to change directions on a dime. He showcased great ball tracking abilities, not allowing a ball to touch the ground. Bowman impressed on Friday; his stock is on the rise.
