As a team, the biggest thing the New Orleans Saints should aim to gain is discipline. The Kellen Moore led squad has struggled with penalties in both games, and the offensive inefficiency put a bright spotlight on it versus the Los Angeles Rams. However, the main attraction of the preseason is the individuals.
There are a few position battles that are still left undecided. The Saints don't have any starting positions on the line, though, and that has given them a chance to rest their starters during the preseason. Moore gave a glimmer of hope to see some starters in the finale, but we'll have to see if that ends up being the case.
For thsoe playing in this game, it's many of their last opportunities to secure a spot on the initial 53 man roster. That's what makes this game such a high pressure situation. Battles for the last spot in the wide receiver room and running back room will be on full display.
Saints WR & RB battles could be decided vs Cowboys
Audric Estime
An assumption had begun to be made that the Saints will keep 4 running backs on the roster due to Alvin Kamara’s injury. Estime has one more chance to prove why that's a good idea. He looked good in limited action before suffering an injury in the opener.
Estime has a good ability to slip tacklers through making them miss or powering through. He has shown last year and early in preseason that he can bring value to the team. He's playing to cement his standing as the fourth running back, and that could actually result in some carries while Kamara's out.
Bub Means
The battle at wide receiver is arguably the biggest battle on the team right now, and it’s a three man race. Between Trey Palmer, Kevin Austin Jr. and Bub Means, the latter has had the best individual performance.
He stood out with multiple big plays against the Jaguars. Another game like that could earn him a spot on the roster. It’s the pivotal battle on the roster, and it’s wide open.
Zamir White
There may not be a simpler example on the team of a player with something the game. The Saints just acquired White via trade, and he’s entering a packed position room. White didn’t get joint practices or many practices at all with the Saints, so this is his only opportunity to showcase his skills against another team.
T.J. Hall
Isaac Yiadom hasn’t played well this offseason. His camp and preseason have left something to be desired. Hall, on the other hand, was one of few Saints to actually make a positive impression last week.
The seventh round pick could play well enough to make it a conversation between him and Yiadom. The bid deciding factor could come down to special teams, but making plays on defense won’t hurt Hall’s chances.
