Saints News: Tyrann Mathieu return and Chris Herndon signing
In New Orleans Saints news, Tyrann Mathieu returned to the team for Wednesday’s practice and the team also signed tight end Chris Herndon on Tuesday.
With training camp taking place for over a week now, there’s not a shortage of topics when it comes to the New Orleans Saints. The biggest topic of conversation right now revolves around Tyrann Mathieu, who signed with the Saints this offseason.
The Louisiana native originally was drafted by the Arizona Cardinals and played in the desert for five years before spending a random year with the Houston Texans and then joining the Kansas City Chiefs for the next three years of his career. Mathieu won a Super Bowl with Kansas City and appeared in another Super Bowl while donning the Chiefs’ red jersey.
After the 2021 season wrapped up though, it was pretty clear that the Chiefs had moved on from Mathieu. Surprisingly, he was still available to sign in free agency late in the game and New Orleans was able to snatch him up.
Mathieu had missed the first week of practice for personal reasons but after a long wait, Saints fans will finally get to see him in camp with his new team.
Speaking of new Saints, the team signed Chris Herndon on Tuesday in what could end up being a sneaky good move. Herndon had a good rookie year with the Jets in 2018 but hasn’t been the same kind of player since then.

The secondary looks to be one of the Saints’ biggest strengths this season and Mathieu only makes it better. He’s an experienced veteran who is now returning to his home state to play in front of fans who have kept tabs on him since he was in high school.
As for Herndon, he might not end up even making the team but if he does and can make any kind of positive impact, then this will be looked at as a good signing for New Orleans.
