3. Necessity

Obviously.

New Orleans desperately needed some help at the wide receiver position, and they went out and got it with the addition of Chris Olave. While the Saints still aren’t where they need to be, they certainly look like they have a more than serviceable offense that is building around quarterback Jameis Winston.

Olave instantly gives the Saints their number two wide receiver on the depth chart, which is a spot that has been a rotating carousel since Emmanuel Sanders left the team. Deonte Harty, Marquez Callaway, and TreQuan Smith will all be solid number three options for Winston to look toward but adding a stable wide receiver two who fits the mold that the Saints desire is priceless.

New Orleans was one of the teams in the mix to sign a veteran wide receiver on the market, and that could still be an option even after the selection of Chris Olave. The Saints had no choice but to get their guy with the first pick they had, and they did so by bringing in who could be the best wide receiver in this draft class.
