5 potential landing spots for Saints WR Tre’Quan Smith in free agency
The New Orleans Saints could lose Tre’Quan Smith in free agency and if they do, where could the wide receiver end up? Let’s take a look.
In the 2018 NFL Draft, the New Orleans Saints spent a third-round pick on Tre’Quan Smith out of UCF. Smith had 1,171 yards and 13 touchdowns during his final year at UCF, so adding him to the NOLA offense felt like a dream come true.
Unfortunately, we never saw that same player come out in the Big Easy, as his career-high in receiving yards was 448 in 2020 while he had career-high touchdown receptions in both his rookie and second season with five.
Smith had plenty of opportunities to prove he could be the WR2 in the NOLA offense and he never came through in that department. He had a lot to gain from a big 2021 season and he didn’t deliver.
Here are some potential landing spots for Smith in free agency this offseason.
5. Dallas Cowboys
The thing about Smith is that he’s not going to be a WR1/2 for whatever team he ends up with. That’s why the Cowboys could make sense for the UCF product.
Dallas might lose Michael Gallup and Cedrick Wilson this offseason but they’ll still have both Amari Cooper and CeeDee Lamb on their roster. That means their top two spots are already filled and they just need a third option. Smith could be that guy.
The problem here is that the Cowboys don’t have much cap space to work with this offseason. Smith shouldn’t be too expensive, which works in the ‘Boys’ favor, at least.
