New Orleans Saints need to ‘get creative at QB’ this offseason
The New Orleans Saints started four different quarterbacks in the 2021 season and they need to address the position in the offseason.
Cody Benjamin of CBS Sports wrote that the Saints need to ‘get creative at QB’ for the 2022 season. Here’s what he said in his write-up:
"Winston absolutely deserves a second look as the potential QB1 considering the confidence he displayed early in 2021, and his price tag should be reasonable due to his unfortunate knee injury. But Payton and Co. also shouldn’t settle on Winston as their only option. In fact, he should be Plan B, or just one part of Plan A. With the No. 18 pick in the draft, New Orleans needs to consider any top QB prospect that happens to slide within reach. And if, somehow, Payton’s able to get a more proven starter like Russell Wilson or even Kirk Cousins, he shouldn’t be afraid to pull the trigger."
The consensus among Who Dat Nation is that NOLA re-signs Jameis Winton and give him another shot to show what he can do. He only started seven games this past season due to an injury in Week 8 that sidelined him for the rest of the season.
Once Winston went down, the Saints had to roll with Trevor Siemian, Taysom Hill, and Ian Book for the rest of the season with Hill having the most success. Hill could very well miss all of 2022 due to a Lisfranc injury and that means he’s out of the question to start in Week 1.
New Orleans Saints: ‘Get creative at QB’
Russell Wilson is another quarterback who is consistently linked to the Saints and that’s probably because he’s listed them on two different lists of teams he’d be willing to play for. He clearly has an eye on the Saints and it’s not hard to see why — They have one of the best coaches in the league, a great defense, a solid o-line when healthy, and a tremendous run game. What quarterback wouldn’t want that?
Acquiring Wilson sounds good on paper but he wouldn’t come cheap and that’s why it still feels like a long shot to land him. It was interesting to see Benjamin mention Kirk Cousins though, as that’s a lesser-talked-about option for this team.
Benjamin mentions in the article how the team needs to clear cap space and that’s an obvious start to this team making a move for someone like Wilson. Signing Winston feels like the ‘safe option’ and while fans would be okay with it happening, doing so should be a last resort if the team can’t get a bigger and better name at the position.

The Saints feel like they’re a quarterback away from doing real damage in the playoffs next season so they need to find someone who can take advantage of everything else this team has that got them to nine wins this past season.
