2. Russell Wilson

One of the two most popular names listed was Russell Wilson, who has now put the Saints on his “wish list” twice now. Perhaps Wilson is intrigued by Payton and wants to play for an offensive-minded coach. Maybe it’s the solid offensive line and the decent run game. Maybe the defense has Wilson’s attention.

Whatever the reason, Wilson continues to be interested in joining the Saints.

The issue, however, is that NOLA might not be able to afford Wilson in a trade. The Bears offered Seattle three first-round picks last offseason and the Seahawks rejected the offer. Can the Saints really afford to give up more than three future first-round picks? I’m not sure they can with all of the needs they have to address.

Wilson is also on an expensive contract and I’m just not sure New Orleans can manage the cap enough to get the 33-year-old to the Big Easy. He also might not be worth the amount of money/draft picks it’d take to bring him to town as he’s looked to have regressed in 2022.

That being said, would I be mad if the Saints traded for Wilson? Definitely not. The team needs a quarterback and Russell Wilson has been one of the best over the past decade.
