Saints Rumors: Russell Wilson would make NOLA Super Bowl contender
The latest batch of Saints rumors are quite juicy, as they involve Russell Wilson potentially becoming a member of the New Orleans Saints in 2022.
The first report was from Jordan Schultz, who said that Wilson had said he’d waive his no-trade clause for the Saints, Giants, and Broncos. Schultz tweeted this information out on Wednesday afternoon and it’s definitely the biggest piece of news in the NOLA universe.
Let’s get this out of the way right now — No, the Saints don’t have much money to work with in the offseason, and that works against them here. That being said, we’ve seen Mickey Loomis work his magic in the past and make crazy things happen, so why couldn’t that happen again here?
New Orleans could trade some of their bigger stars to free up cap space or even offer them up to Seattle if they were indeed serious about acquiring Wilson.
Saints Rumors: Russell Wilson could be on the move
It’s clear as day this season that New Orleans needs to add both a quarterback and a wide receiver (or multiple wide receivers) this offseason. Wilson would give them one of the best signal-callers in the league and they’re set to get Michael Thomas back in 2022. Thomas could be someone they opt to trade to save money but with Wilson in town, that might not be a popular option.
NOLA would definitely need to add offensive playmakers to be appealing enough to Wilson. The Broncos have a slew of talented receivers as do the Giants not to mention both of those teams have a tremendous run game as well.
When looking at the Saints’ 2021 roster, the offense has held this team back. Their defense has been tremendous throughout the year and the offense has been the reason things have fallen apart. Wilson needs better receivers if he’s serious about coming to New Orleans, but he’d at least have given them an extra win or two this season and made them more competitive.
The Bucs are the clear favorites in the NFC South as long as the Saints don’t have a good quarterback but Wilson immediately puts them not just in the division title race again but the Super Bowl conversation as well.
