Saints place Tony Jones Jr. on IR, add another RB to practice squad
It was unfortunate seeing Tony Jones Jr. go down with an injury on Sunday and now the New Orleans Saints have placed the Notre Dame product on IR. This is a tough blow for a guy who worked really hard to earn his spot on the roster and now it’s been cut short.
To make up for being down one running back, NOLA has signed Ryquell Armstead to their practice squad. This comes one day after the team added Devine Ozigbo to their practice squad as well, and it’s clear the team is making it a point to bulk up on backs on the off chance that Alvin Kamara goes down with an injury.
Fortunately, Kamara is good to go but what if something happens to him? That’d leave the Saints with Dwayne Washington as their likely starter. Not ideal.
The Saints signed Ryquell Armstead after placing Tony Jones Jr. on IR.
Armstead isn’t a big name, having been drafted in the fifth round out of Temple by the Jaguars two years ago. He played in all 16 games as a rookie with one start and rushed for 108 yards on 35 carries.
This isn’t a move that’s going to have the fan base jumping up and down but hey, at least New Orleans is trying to make sure they’re well-stocked at running back. They parted ways with Latavius Murray ahead of the season because of what Jones did and hopefully that doesn’t come back to bite them when it’s all said and done.
Armstead isn’t going to have much of a role on this team but the Saints are covering their tracks and you can’t blame them for that.
