5 Saints that hopefully prove fans wrong during 2021 season
Saints that fans hope prove them wrong – No. 3: Tre’Quan Smith
The wide receiver position has been a topic of conversation all season long and for good reason. Michael Thomas is going to miss several games and that puts a lot of pressure on Tre’Quan Smith, who is entering his fourth year in the league.
This is a contract year for Smith, which is an incentive for him to play well this year but he’s been injured through most of training camp and didn’t play in the preseason opener. While Smith has been on the sidelines, Marquez Callaway has had a chance to step up and show that he can be the WR1 if called upon.
To this point, Smith hasn’t been anything more than a WR3 with his career-high in receiving yards sitting at 448 (a mark he set last year) and his career-high in touchdowns being five, which he did as a rookie in 2018 and again in 2019.
This will be Smith’s chance to show what he can do and if he’s worth a team dishing out a bunch of money for him in the offseason. We might not see Smith on the field until the regular season in order to let him be as healthy as possible but fans are hoping he can be the electric receiver the team was expecting him to be when they drafted him in the third round three years ago.
