3 Saints who are tumbling in value after preseason opener
Saints who tumbled in value – No. 2: Trevor Siemian
The Saints entered camp with four quarterbacks on their roster but only two of them were in the running to win the starting job. Trevor Siemian isn’t one of those two in the running but was mostly on the roster as a depth piece who could potentially win the third-string job.
It wasn’t a great situation for Siemian though, as whoever doesn’t win the starting job will be the backup and it’s likely that fourth-round rookie Ian Book will be the third-string. That left Siemian as the odd man out from the getgo and after not playing in the preseason opener, whatever value he did have for this team tumbled to zero.
The Saints didn’t cut Siemian this week, but if he doesn’t see the field on Monday vs. Jacksonville, the writing will certainly be on the wall for the NFL journeyman.
Siemian’s value wasn’t high entering the summer but not playing a single snap in a preseason game doesn’t bode well for him. At this point, even if he does play, he’s probably not making the Saints’ final roster but he has the chance to up his stock for another team in search of a quarterback.
