New Orleans Saints RB3 Options – No. 2: Ty Montgomery

A few years ago, Ty Montgomery was a wide receiver for the Green Bay Packers. When the Packers had no running backs available due to a plethora of injuries, Montgomery switched to running back and has since served as a hybrid running back/wide receiver.

He was mostly used as a running back in his inaugural season with the Saints and we didn’t get to see a ton from him. He appeared in six games and started the final one when the Saints were resting a lot of their starters. On the season, Montgomery totaled 19 carries for 101 yards and had three receptions for 27 yards.

Montgomery starting a game for the Saints at running back last year shows that the team has faith in him but he could also be a cap casualty ahead of the regular season. It’s no secret that New Orleans is trying to cut costs where they can and Montgomery isn’t someone that made a huge impact in his lone year in the Big Easy.

If the Saints don’t cut Montgomery, he has a shot at landing the No. 3 running back job.
