Free Agents for New Orleans Saints – No. 1: Richard Sherman

The Saints have frequently been linked to Richard Sherman this offseason and that’s why he’s No. 1 on this list. Sherman is still a very talented cornerback and the Saints could certainly use him at the position. They drafted another former Stanford corner in Paulson Adebo to help out at the position, but if Sherman decided he wanted to come to New Orleans, the team isn’t going to pass that up.

Sherman only appeared in five games last year due to injury but the year before — a year in which the 49ers went to the Super Bowl — he was his typical self, even in his early 30s. He had 61 tackles, 11 defended passes, and three interceptions (one returned for a touchdown) during that 2019 season and he was 31 years old then.

Sherman has revealed some of the teams he’s spoken to and, per ESPN, the Saints were one of those teams. This is a move that the Saints need to make because Sherman would make their cornerback group one of the best in the league. Just imagine him on the opposite side of Marshon Lattimore. That’s a unit that teams will be scared to throw on in 2021.

Yes, the injuries are concerning, but Sherman has shown that when he’s healthy, he’s a game-changing player. New Orleans needs that in their secondary.

All five of these free agents would help make the New Orleans Saints a better team. They’re still out there for the taking so hopefully, the Saints strike a deal with at least one of them before the start of training camp.
