Number Five: Max Unger

Max Unger is a former New Orleans Saints center who spent four years in the boot after being traded from the Seattle Seahawks. Unger, 34, could definitely still play in the NFL. Unger retired in his prime which seemingly came out of nowhere.

Max Unger had a good enough career to be considered for the Hall of Fame.

Unger started all 130 games he played in his career which is difficult to do in today’s NFL. The former second-round pick out of Oregon State went to three Pro Bowls, won a Super Bowl with Seattle, and was a First-Team All-Pro in 2012.

Max Unger always kept Drew Brees upright and healthy, and they had a seemingly unbreakable bond, even starring in mattress commercials together.

Unger’s retirement has led to the Saints drafting a center the past two years with their first selections in the draft and bringing Unger back would help provide leadership at the position.
