The Upside

Currently, no one is in camp as NFL facilities are still closed to the teams. There have been no OTA’s or mini-camps and there may not be any. It is completely possible that the first time teams get together is for training camp.

That is a tremendous benefit for the Saints. The black and gold have a veteran team most of whom have played together over the last few seasons.

Even though Brady is a veteran, any time you move to a different team there are continuity issues to take care of. With the potential for no camp work early, and possibly even a contracted training camp, that team will not have as much time to gel.

More from Who Dat Dish

Normally the Saints open the season slowly, but facing an unkempt Tampa Bay team might be to some advantage.

The Saints will also have a feature game in week two, when the Saints will be in Las Vegas to help christen the Raiders’ new place, Allegiant Stadium, on Monday Night Football. While the Raiders are not necessarily expected to be contenders, particularly playing in the division with the Chiefs, they will not want to lose opening night in their new digs.

No disrespect to either Tampa Bay or Las Vegas, but the first true test should come in week three against the Green Bay Packers.

The Packers played for the NFC Championship last season and they will be looking to improve on that this season. This will be our third consecutive feature game, this one in primetime on Sunday Night Football.

The Saints get their bye in week six; maybe a bit earlier than you would like, but better than week three or four. Around that time, the Saints will face opponents they should beat. During that stretch, we will have our third night game, another Monday night tilt with the Los Angeles Chargers.
