Options in the free agency market

The Saints could also acquire talent in the free-agent market to address the need at linebacker as well.

The Rams’ Cory Littleton is set to hit the market and could be a solid addition to the Saints. Littleton, 26, had 134 tackles, 3.5 sacks, and two interceptions in 2019.

Markus Golden could be a great fit in New Orleans as well. Golden, 28, had 72 tackles and ten sacks in 2019 and could continue the trend of being former New York Giants joining the Saints.

The Saints could definitely opt to acquire talent through the free-agent market, but I feel as if the Saints should use the draft to fill the void. The Saints could draft a franchise-caliber linebacker in the first round and use the later rounds and free agency to acquire help at the cornerback and wide receiver positions.

The draft is loaded with star-caliber wide receivers as there will likely be a handful of highly productive receivers late in the draft. The cornerback market isn’t exceptional this offseason but it’s good enough to acquire some cheap talent.

Using a first-round pick on a linebacker would be a smart decision for the team’s front office.
