New Orleans Saints wide receiver Brandin Cooks is Randy Moss approved
Future Hall-of-Fame wide receiver and arguably one of the greatest to ever play the position, Randy Moss was out and about at New Orleans Saints training camp Thursday in his home state of West Virginia supporting his former team, the New England Patriots.
The two clubs joined together to hold practices before they both head to New Orleans for a preseason contest in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome Saturday night.
Moss was hovering around the Patriots’ sideline for most of the practice and even took some questions from the media. Apparently he did some training with Saints second-year wide receiver Brandin Cooks over the summer.
Cooks, who will be looking to step up in the absence of tight end Jimmy Graham and wide receiver Kenny Stills, is in line to become Drew Brees‘ go-to target in 2015.
“With Graham gone, that means a lot more targets are going to be coming his (Brandin Cooks) way,” Randy Moss told reporters. “Just by looking at his body, it looks like he’s ready to take on the challenge. He’s a good receiver. I’m not going to call him great, but the sky is the limit. He’s in a great offense. He’s got a great quarterback in Drew Brees. The sky is the limit for whatever he wants to do in this offense, and I think Sean Payton is going to put him in a position to make plays.”
It sounds like he’s Randy Moss approved. When that comes from a guy who sits third all-time in receiving yards and second all-time in receiving touchdowns, you know you’re doing something right.
With the skill set, professionalism both on and off the field, and a winner’s work ethic, Brandin Cooks will be aiming for greatness with the starting job in his hands in 2015. He’s been phenomenal throughout training camp. He showed up big during New Orleans’ first preseason game in Baltimore. And he’ll look to continue dazzling coaches, players and onlookers Saturday night when the Saints host the Patriots Saturday evening down on the bayou.
