New Orleans Saints: A Look Back At 2010 And The Top 10 Stories From WDD
By Keith Null
"Dream the impossible dream, Fight the unbeatable foe, Strive with your last once of courage To reach the unreachable star."
For Saints fans 2010 will live on as one of the greatest years imaginable thanks to one shining moment that was long, long, overdue — a Super Bowl championship.
Sure the Saints had some successful seasons in the last twenty years but honestly they were very few and far between. Forty-four years of mediocrity came to an end in February when the Saints beat the Colts 31-17 in Super Bowl XLIV as fans everywhere rejoiced.
Finally the Saints were champions.
New Orleans wasn’t supposed to win, how could they? For as long as one could remember they epitome of almost could but never will, the biggest joke in the NFL.
Even at home pundits claimed the Saints did not have the firepower to contend with the Kurt Warner lead Arizona Cardinals, or that the Vikings defense would be too much for the Saints to handle so they would surely fall in the NFC Championship game.
We now of course know the outcome of both games, the Saints won.
Then when it came time to face the Colts and the great Payton Manning the Saints were once again the under dog. Everyone pegged Indianapolis as the next champs, it’s just that someone forgot to tell most of these people the game still had to be played.
We also now of course know the outcome of the game, the Saints won.
Saints fans however knew all along that they were going to win both play-off games and the Super Bowl. They were a team of destiny and no one was going to take our title away.
So here is to the Saints team who worked so hard to dream the impossible dream and who beat the unbeatable foe, let’s not forget the fans who braved years of losing seasons but never gave up hope that New Orleans would reach that unreachable star — may 2011 be met with the same success.
