Going into their Week 16 matchup with the Green Bay Packers, there was very little left to play for. The New Orleans Saints had been previously eliminated from playoff contention and a few key starters were missing from action.
But, at this point, there was indeed something to play for: pride.
The Saints could still go out there over these remaining few games and play hard. This is where we find out who is going to be part of this team going forward, come the offseason, when there are decisions to be made.
One of those players, defensive back Ugo Amadi, signed with the Saints on a one-year contract over this past offseason. He'll be a free agent as soon as this league year is up.
And, something tells me he won't be coming back to New Orleans thanks to one specific play on Monday Night Football.
More Saints news:
The Packers' offense started with the football and, on the very first drive, quarterback Jordan Love led his guys down the field pretty easily. Love went 4-for-4 for 24 yards on the drive, while running back Josh Jacobs gained 29 yards on five carries.
The drive's final play came on a third-and-goal from the 2-yard line. Love dropped back to pass, while wide receiver Dontayvion Wicks had Amadi to deal with.
Ugo Amadi produced maybe the worst defensive flop of the season on Monday Night Football
After Wicks quickly turned around on a short route just in front of the line of scrimmage, Amadi tried to draw a flag by flopping to the ground. In hilarious fashion, Wicks took full advantage of his defender on the ground and took a couple side steps into the end zone before catching the pass from Love for the score.
From the snap, Amadi and Wicks engaged in a very brief scuffle -- and that's putting it on the extreme end. There was contact made, but not much.
Amadi proceeded to put on an act that, quite frankly, wouldn't even pass on Broadway. It was an embarrassment for Amadi, an embarrassment for the Saints and, to put it bluntly, an embarrassment for defensive backs everywhere.
Needless to say, Amadi won't be returning to the Saints in the offseason. New Orleans can allow him to walk and sign elsewhere after witnessing such an atrocity of a defensive effort.
