Tyrann Mathieu is one of several players on the New Orleans Saints that’s nearing the end of their career. Like Mathieu, many of them have one year left on their contracts with the Saints. With New Orleans starting a new era this offseason under head coach Kellen Moore, a lot of people believe the team should just cut veterans like Mathieu and end the era right now.
That belief recently gained legs with a report from Tony Pauline, saying New Orleans is considering releasing Mathieu before the start of free agency. With that story making it’s rounds, the veteran safety decided to speak up and silence the noise.
Taking to social media, Mathieu simply said, “slow news day I see,” before saying 504 forever, and emphasizing that he is New Orleans. Obviously, he feels good about his future with the team. That isn’t the only narrative he wanted to put to bed either. With a fan responding to him telling him to retire, Mathieu responded by saying he will one day, making it clear that day won’t be this offseason.

504 forever!!
I am New Orleans!
Tyrann Mathieu is planning to play the 2025 season with the Saints
This shouldn’t come as a surprise. While many analysts argue that guys like Mathieu, Cam Jordan, Demario Davis, and Taysom Hill should be released, there isn’t a strong belief that it’s actually going to happen. New Orleans has proven to be a pretty loyal and committed franchise, so it’s fair to assume the franchise will let these legends play out their contracts.
That’s exactly what Mathieu wanted when he made the decision to come home in 2022. After signing a two-year extension with the Saints last offseason, he was open about how much it means for his career to be ending where it started— in his hometown of New Orleans. Since returning, he’s been able to impact his city on and off the field.
With the 2025 season being his 13th in the league, and his age 33 season, it will likely be his last. Of course, he’ll want to go out on top and bring his city a Super Bowl, but the Saints have a lot of work to get done to make that happen.
