After Tyler Shough's performance on Sunday against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, he left many impressed. Former New Orleans Saints safety and future Hall of Famer Tyrann Mathieu might be one of his biggest fans.

The Honey Badger took to X (formerly known as Twitter) after the game. "The Saints should build everything around Tyler. He showed me something today!!! His numbers won’t wow you, but it’s the critical situation football he’s winning! This city should absolutely get behind him & embrace him as QB for the next decade!!" Mathieu said about an hour after the game was over. "Get him some more weapons & a good defense! Saints aren’t far off from bouncing back & competing in this division!"

Mathieu was so enthralled that he had to make a second post five minutes after the first one. "I do not want to get ahead, but this guy can ball!" Mathieu said. "Give him the keys and let him do this thing!!"

Saints QB Tyler Shough has been on a roll this season

Despite not having started this season out as the Saints' starting quarterback, rookie Tyler Shough has managed to get on a roll this season. Shough has only started five games, after entering halfway through the first game versus the Buccaneers. In that small amount of time, he has managed to prove all of his pre-draft doubters wrong. So far in his rookie season, Shough has completed 120 passes for 1,212 yards, five touchdowns, and five interceptions.

Shough is almost guaranteed to break a franchise record as well. Currently, he is just 105 yards off from the Saints rookie record for most passing yards in a season. Set by Spencer Rattler last year, it was a record that was previously held by Archie Manning (who had 1,164 passing yards in 1971) for 53 years.

Manning also set the record for most rushing yards by a Saints rookie, except with this one has yet to be broken. Over the past five decades, no Saints rookie QB has gotten more than 172 yards on the ground. Shough is just 66 yards away from toppling that record.
