Tyler Shough’s Saints future in doubt as new QB buzz starts early

Could the Shough era be over before it even starts?

The New Orleans Saints surprised a lot of people in the 2025 NFL Draft by using their early second-round pick on Louisville quarterback Tyler Shough. No disrespect to Shough but many people had circled the Saints in as a landing spot for Shedeur Sanders and when they passed on him to take Shough, it was an eyebrow-raising move, to say the least.

That being said, Sanders dropped to the fifth round so the Saints weren't the only team to pass on him. Kellen Moore clearly liked what he saw in Shough and thinks he can be his Jalen Hurts in New Orleans.

For now at least.

Brent Sobleski of Bleacher Report discussed eight teams that should be looking ahead at Arch Manning as their next quarterback of the future, and, since we're talking about it, that means the Saints made the list.

Saints might already be looking toward 2026 QB class, namely Arch Manning

Now, it's worth noting that the Manning family is notorious for staying in college all four years and 2025 will be Arch's third collegiate season with the Texas Longhorns. With NIL money being as ridiculous as it is now, Arch staying in school in 2026 feels like it's bound to happen. He hasn't been the full-time starter since Quinn Ewers was still in Austin during Arch's first two years there so 2025 is his first real chance to shine.

That being said, if Arch does end up declaring for the 2026 NFL Draft, the Saints would make a lot of sense for his services. His grandfather, Archie Manning, played for the Saints for over a decade and his three sons grew up in New Orleans. The family ties in NOLA are strong so why not let it come full circle and add Arch to the roster?

The Saints might have spent a second-round pick on Shough but if he doesn't show the Saints enough as a rookie, he could be expendable early on. If Arch Manning declares for the draft and New Orleans has a shot at landing him, Shough's time in the Big Easy could be over before it ever really began.
