It would take some serious thought to remember the last time the New Orleans Saints were this active this early in free agency. Tyler Shough was sitting back at home watching the day unfold with the similar reactions to many other Saints fans. And like many other fans, Shough shared his reactions on social media. His reaction to David Edwards stood out the most.
Shough commented on all the signings and championed each one. He laid out the benefit of bringing Ryan Wright aboard, which was valuable as punters don’t often get treated like big deals. Shough expressed excitement to work with Noah Fant and Travis Etienne. His post about Edwards wasn’t all that different, but it echoed the sentiment and first reaction among the fan base.

Tyler Shough may be the biggest winner of Saints bringing in David Edwards
It was only one word, and sometimes 8 characters is all you need to get a point across. It’s all that was needed to embody the excitement of The Who Dat Nation. The quarterback just added a couple of emojis for good measure.
This may be a bit projecting, but Shough’s “Yessirrr” felt like a player understanding the biggest hole on the team had been filled. On top of being the biggest hole on the team, it’s the addition that has the most immediate impact to Shough and his success.
Shough frequently had to work off script because of pressure on passing snaps. While he made the best of the situation, that's not an ideal circumstance for a quarterback to thrive in. This instantly contributes to helping solve this issue. When it comes to pass blocking, Edwards allowed a quick pressure on just 0.7% of his snaps. That was good for third best in the league.
Improved pass blocking gives Shough more time to go through his reads and the receivers more time to get open. On both fronts, Shough is the benefactor. The Edwards signing should make Shough's life more peaceful and hopefully increase the chances of a sophomore surge.
