New Orleans Saints quarterback Tyler Shough received praise from NFL Hall of Famer Peyton Manning at his annual passing academy. The five-time MVP spoke fondly of Shough’s rookie year and noted how the experience and continuity in the offense bode well for his future.

“I know that Tyler got great experience playing as a rookie that’s going to benefit him,” Manning said. “Same coach back, same system with Kellen (Moore) and Nuss (Doug Nussmeier). I love continuity for young quarterbacks as opposed to different coordinators and different head coaches after their first or second year. That’ll serve him well.”

Shough started the final nine weeks for the Saints, going 5-4. Manning includes how important this experience was and how well it aligns him for his future.

Tyler Shough’s connection with the Saints offense will only grow in 2026.

Shough’s experience last year helped him build chemistry with Chris Olave, Devaughn Vele, and Juwan Johnson. Already having these pre-built connections will help jumpstart the Saints’ offense next year. Additionally, as Manning noted, both Kellen Moore and offensive coordinator Doug Nussmeier are returning. This means they can start hot in week one rather than having to develop the offense early in the season.

Another benefit of Shough's experience and the continuity is that their new playmakers can be instantly impactful. The second-year quarterback is already building chemistry with Travis Etienne, Jordyn Tyson, and Bryce Lance.

Although they weren’t here last season, Moore and Nussmeier know how to run and implement various pieces into their offense, as they were forced to last year. Similarly, Shough knows how to build rapport with receivers. As a result, they should fit seamlessly and be productive early in their careers.

Shough is primed to make the jump from a rookie sensation to a bona fide star in 2026 largely because of his rookie experience and continuity in the offense. While the Saints added dynamic playmakers, the foundation around Shough is still the same, which will prove to be valuable. If all goes well, the Saints could have a scorching start to the season with their elite offense.
