With the NFL Draft upon us, the New Orleans Saints find themselves in a pivotal position holding the number 8 overall pick, a selection that could shape the direction of the franchise. All eyes are on how they’ll use it, especially as they continue to build around young quarterback Tyler Shough. He's already drawn recognition from a few draft prospects that have openly expressed interest in the opportunity to play with him.
Shough expressed his excitement about the opportunity to add more firepower to the offense, and with a deep class of playmakers available, he’ll certainly be hoping the Saints bolster the wide receiver room to give him another dynamic weapon on the outside. Shough can't just come out and say I want a receiver, but the message is clear.
“I’ve watched almost all their film from college, and just [out of] curiosity, I think all those guys have had elite-level play,” Shough said. “I think the biggest thing, at least from what I’ve seen all over the draft board, there’s a lot of talent balance. So obviously, I want to keep doing everything I can and to get some of those guys would be really good.”

The respect appears genuine on both sides. Shough has spoken highly of the depth and explosiveness in the class, while a few wideouts have acknowledged how appealing it would be to catch passes from a quarterback with his arm strength. That kind of admiration is hard to ignore.
All signs seem to point toward New Orleans making wide receiver a priority in the first round. Investing in a premier pass catcher would not only reinforce their commitment to building around Shough but also energize their young quarterback in a major way.
Giving Shough another dynamic weapon on the outside could immediately elevate the offense by, stretching defenses, and creating explosive plays. Selecting a wide receiver could be the key to accelerating Shough’s development as the face of the franchise.
