Carnell Tate has elevated Tyler Shough into the group of great quarterbacks. For the second time this offseason, Tate has mentioned the New Orleans Saints quarterback as one of quarterbacks he'd like to catch passes from. This time Tate through a little extra sauce on it by including Shough in the group of "great quarterbacks."
Originally, Tate only mentioned Shough and Josh Allen as quarterbacks he would like to play with. It was an ironic pairing, seeing that a parallel between Shough and Allen had recently been drawn by Panthers offensive line Robert Hunt. Tate's second mention takes it further than a small connection between players.
When asked again about quarterbacks he'd like to catch the ball from was, Tate said, "at the next level, I'd like to catch passes from Patrick Mahomes, Tyler Shough, Josh Allen, Jayden Daniels, so all the great quarterbacks." The list has expanded for Tate, but he's keeping his original two options included. As the list grew, the company just gets more impressive for the Saints rookie quarterback.
Carnell Tate's commnets speak volumes about Tyler Shough's trajectory
It would be one thing if Chris Bell was the one making these comments. He and Shough played together in college, so it'd be logical to hear him mention his former collegiate quarterback as a player he'd like to play with at the next level. In a way, Bell did exactly that, however, he was asked about playing for the Saints specifically.
Tate didn't wait until the Saints were the topic to bring Shough up. It was a generic question about who he'd like to play with, and Tate once again named the Saints quarterback quickly.
Shough’s name stands out from the rest of the pack. Jayden Daniels doesn’t have years in the game as Mahomes and Allen. He also isn’t in the best quarterback in the league conversation. His rookie year, though, was highly successful. Daniels led the team to the NFC Championship Game, and it left him highly regarded following that campaign.Â
Shough doesn’t have any of that and still found himself on Tate's list. Shough's inexperience is what makes the inclusion impressive. Shough still has a ways to go before he actually becomes one of the great quarterbacks in the league, but even being mentioned with those players is a bonus.
Shough had a solid rookie year that flashed a lot of potential. That belief expands beyond just the Saints. Tate is clearly a believer. Most importantly, Tate's comments prove Shough is already making players want to come to New Orleans. It's likely not just Tate who feels this way either.
