The New Orleans Saints are in the final stretch of the season and will be heading to Nashville, Tenn. this weekend to take on the Titans. With a win over AFC quarterback Cam Ward, Tyler Shough can eliminate any doubt that he's the top QB of the 2025 draft class.
Though It might not look like it on paper, the fact of the matter is that Shough, the 40th overall selection, has had more success in the league than the number one pick. He's managed to make plays with nearly every player on the roster and has, honestly, elevated the vibes in New Orleans to levels that haven't been seen since Drew Brees was at the helm. Even though Ward might have better statistics, he has not brought the winning attitude that Shough has brought.
Shough didn't even get the benefits of first-team reps at the beginning of the season, starting out as the Saints' second-string quarterback. If he was the starter in New Orleans from the beginning of the season on, who knows what his stats would've looked like. With the way he's been playing since getting the starting nod, they probably would be even more record-breaking than they already are.
Tyler Shough didn't care about pre draft rankings
Back in April, Tyler Shough wasn't in the conversations as one of the draft's top quarterbacks. Cam Ward and Jaxson Dart were regularly being talked about instead of Shough. However, the Saints quarterback said that he was ready for any opportunity. "I knew wherever I went, that I was going to make the most of it," he said to the media.
Shough also acknowledged that the Saints was his favorite team pre-draft. "I wanted to be in a great situation and just be on a great team with a great city, culture, and all those things. To me, pre-draft, New Orleans kind of checked all of those boxes, so it was kind of a dream come true that way."
He has definitely made the most of this dream come true, breaking team records left and right, and is now firmly in second place in the odds for NFL offensive rookie of the year. Only Carolina Panthers wide receiver Tetiaroa McMillian is ahead of him.
