The wait is over! The 2025 preseason has arrived, the New Orleans Saints will finally hit the bright lights for the first time in 217 days, as they take on the Los Angeles Chargers in their pre season debut. Our eyes are glued to positional battles, rookies and players looking to take the leap. Most notably, two members of the Who Dat Dish team have eyes on Trevor Penning.

Several Saints players are worth watching, as they look to go out and display what they’ve shown during training camp.  Rookies and veterans will both play crucial roles this preseason. This is the proving ground to make the roster and make lasting impressions.

The Saints are looking to solidify roles at key positions for the upcoming season. Without joint practices, the preseason is the only time these players will get to compete against another team. This is a big step as the coaching staff evaluates how well these individuals can perform and adapt to their new schemes.

Players to watch in Saints preseason debut

Trevor Penning

One player I’ll be keeping a close eye on on Sunday is former first-round draft pick Trevor Penning. Making his debut at left guard, a position he hasn’t played since his early days in college. It's crucial that he looks comfortable and can handle stuff on his own. Because for Penning, it’s his third position in as many years, after failing to solidify himself as a left and right tackle~ Molly Bauer

Danny Stutsman

Stutsman has been one of the more exciting rookies in training camp. He's already showing a strong command of the defense and athleticism when flying around the field. It's difficult to miss him on the field, and the desire is that transfers to the preseason. Stutsman has taken some snaps with the first team, but his current battle is to beat out Nephi Sewell for the third linebacker spot. Look for Stutsman's athleticism and downhill ability in his preseason debut.~ Darrion Gray

Trevor Penning

I’m keeping my eye on Trevor Penning. He transitioned to the interior this offseason and is projected to start at left guard. Obviously he still needs time to improve, but we will get a sense of his potential in this game. It will be insightful to see if he looks more comfortable and can keep the quarterback clean. Fans should have far more confidence in the offensive line if Penning shows promise.~ Drew Collings

Khristian Boyd

I am excited to watch Kristian Boyd in the Saints 2025 preseason, his ability to take on double teams and shed blocks against the run were a big reason why the Saints selected him in 2024. He is a player that can possibly develop into a solid rotational piece for the squad. His preseason reps will be crucial, as he battles for a consistent spot in the Saints rotation.~ Tramell Jeffers
