This might eliminate one name from the list.

The New Orleans Saints remain one of the NFL teams currently holding a head coaching vacancy and are in the running for some of the top candidates available.

Well, "available" as in, candidates currently in play. One of the top candidates is still coaching, at the moment, but is one of the top names to watch for New Orleans.

Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Aaron Glenn has been connected to the Saints' job for a while now and many fans have expected him to wind up taking the job, in the end. The only road block is the fact that Detroit is still in the postseason and Glenn cannot be officially hired just yet.

The Saints did complete an interview with Glenn, but so did another team that's in the mix for his services: the New York Jets. At the moment, it looks like the Jets and Saints are the two teams it's going to come down to for Glenn.

More Saints news:

Now, it might just be all about which team Glenn prefers and, a new report suggests that team might not be the Saints.

Brian Costello of The New York Post recently stated as much in one of his latest columns.

" [Glenn] has told people the Jets are his first choice if he were to be offered a head coaching position," wrote Costello.

Aaron Glenn has ties to both the Jets and the Saints, making this coaching cycle interesting

Well, if the Jets offer Glenn the job, it looks like New Orleans might be on the outside looking in.

Either club would make a lot of sense for Glenn, as many fans already know. Glenn spent a long portion of his playing career with the Jets. After New York drafted him in the first round of the 1994 NFL Draft, he played all the way through the 2001 season for the team.

It was only the very last year of his career which he spent time with the Saints. However, Glenn did coach the Saints' defensive backs from 2016-2020 before becoming the Lions' defensive coordinator in 2021.

The Lions' staff features two top coaching candidates this year with Glenn's counterpart, offensive coordinator Ben Johnson. For the Jets, Johnson likely doesn't make a lot of sense because of the lack of quarterback in New York.

Johnson's big criteria included having a quarterback he could win with or a path to go get one, and the Jets don't have either right now. This is also one of the main reasons why the Saints aren't going to end up with Johnson, either. The quarterback position seems up in the air for both franchises, thus Glenn becomes a stronger option.

If it's not Glenn, look for the Saints to also make a strong push for Mike McCarthy, who recently became a coaching free agent as well.
