The New Orleans Saints made a splash signing in free agency with Travis Etienne Jr., but that doesn’t mean they're done addressing the position. While running back in round one of the 2026 NFL Draft is unlikely, a day two or three prospect would make sense. Three players stand out as possible options in this range.

Each of the prospects below have a slightly different range. This will give Saints’ fans an encompassing view on what various ranges would look like.

With that said, here are three mid-round running back options for the Saints during the NFL Draft.

Mike Washington Jr. is a game-changing player for the Saints

Mike Washington Jr.

Mike Washington Jr. uses his home-run speed and elite vision to establish himself as an explosive threat. The former Arkansas Razorback uses his six-foot-one, 223 pound frame to barrel through defenders. He isn’t afraid of contact and consistently breaks through tackles. Additionally, Washington’s rapid acceleration allows him to blow past defenders before they reach top speed. He’s a perfect complement to Travis Etienne and an enticing selection in round two.

Emmett Johnson

Emmet Johnson isn’t the most explosive or the fastest athlete; however, he compensates with his elusiveness, creativity and burst. It’s rare for the first person to tackle him. More often than not, it takes a swarm of defenders. An underrated part of Johnson’s game is his vision behind the line of scrimmage. He is patient, waiting for his blocks set up, then quickly accelerates and flies through a gap. Johnson’s likely a round three selection in April because of these traits.

Demond Claiborne

Demond Claiborne is a flawed prospect, but his quickness and burst is jaw dropping. The five-foot-nine, 192 pound running back is a constant big-play threat with his blazing speed and suddenness. Additionally, he’s dangerous as a kick and punt returner. His various issues with ball security, blocking and power will make him drop to day three, but that’s a perfect range for the Saints.
