We're in the home stretch now, because in less than a week, the New Orleans Saints kick off their regular season at home against the Arizona Cardinals. To be exact, there are six days, or five sleeps, until the start of the Saints' 2025 season.
Quarterback Tyler Shough, who was selected with the 40th overall pick back in April by New Orleans, is the player of the day. However, despite being the earliest QB the Saints have selected since 1971 (Archie Manning), he'll have to wait to show that he can be the future face of the team. Heading into his first season in the NFL, he's the second-string QB behind Spencer Rattler.
But despite the disappointment, the former Louisville Cardinal says that he's ready to roll for his first season and to support Rattler. "For me, I feel like I've done a good job of just improving every week. My confidence hasn't wavered up to this point." Shough told the media. "I'm going to keep getting better, keep growing, keep learning, and just kind of stay ready for that time."
Other players to wear #6 for the New Orleans Saints
Tyler Shough is not the first, and will not be the last, player to wear the number six for the black and gold. Although, he is only the second quarterback in team history to don the number. Blake Bortles had a short stint with the the team in 2021, though he never took a snap in the Black and Gold.
Speaking of 2021, it was a popular year for the numeral. The Saints brought in four different kickers who wore no. 6. As crazy as it is to have that many kickers in the span of one year, it's even stranger for them to all wear the same number.
Here are some others who have worn the number before the 2025 rookie:
