Taysom Hill is an icon for the New Orleans Saints. He provided value as a passer, rusher, and receiver throughout his career in the Big Easy. His value was exemplified in what could have been his final home game last week. It’s not definitive he will retire, but if he does, his final game was the perfect send off.
Hill filled up the stat sheet last week with 42 yards rushing, 38 yards passing, 36 yards rushing, and one passing touchdown. He did everything for the Saints who were lacking depth at running back and receiver.
After Sunday’s performance, Hill is the only player in NFL history, in the Super Bowl era, to reach 1,000 yards receiving, rushing, and passing. He needed 34 yards receiving going into the week and cleared it by two yards.
Taysom Hill’s postgame emotions may indicate he’s retiring
Hill was emotional following the game on Sunday. It’s clear that he has seriously contemplated retiring or potentially playing somewhere else. Either reality would mean that he played his final home game.
“As I was driving to the stadium today, you start to think about the last nine years and what it’s meant to me, my family, this city and stuff,” Hill said, “I think for me personally, you just try to take it all in. We had a great experience here tonight and I don’t know what the future holds for me, but it was a special day for me and my family.”
Hill is 35 years old and has been with the team since 2017. He’s played snaps at quarterback, tight end, wide receiver, running back, fullback, and on special teams during that period. His versatility has been invaluable to the team.
It’s still unclear what Taysom Hill will do this offseason, but if he does retire, he will go down as a franchise legend. His performance against the Jets on Sunday was exemplary of what’s been a great career for Hill.
