We're nearly four weeks into NFL free agency now, and New Orleans Saints football player Taysom Hill's future status is still in question. At this point, retirement might legitimately be on the table.

The human Swiss Army Knife is currently an unrestricted free agent, but the issue isn't necessarily whether he'll re-sign with the team or not; rather, the issue at hand is that the Saints don't know if he'll be hanging up his cleats. Two scenarios with varying effects on the cap, it's one of the biggest question marks left in New Orleans.

In the scenario that Hill decides to keep playing football, it'll have to be at a significantly reduced price. His previous contract had him earning $10 million a year, a number that he hasn't lived up to the past few seasons. Per Spotrac, his market value is similar to what Jimmy Graham's was when he re-signed with the team back in 2023, around $2 million a year. 80% less than last year, it's something that might be stalling the contract talks.

Taysom Hill to the Broncos isn't out of the question

If Hill does decide to keep playing football next year, and he and the Saints stall in their contract talks, he'd probably give his old head coach Sean Payton a call and head up North. He did help him get to where he's at today, after all.

Under Payton's tutelage, Hill started to do things that haven't been seen since Sammy Baugh. Never sticking to just one position, or even offense for that matter, he's become the only person in the Super Bowl era (and fourth all-time) to gather at least 1,000 yards receiving, rushing, and passing in his career.

The Denver Broncos, Payton's new team, were also a team that was one win away from the Super Bowl last year. If they're able to access a vintage Taysom, it might be one of the final pieces to their puzzle. Adding to the offense has also clearly been their main goal this offseason, given the trade for wide receiver Jaylen Waddle, so if Hill calls, his old coach might answer.

No matter what Taysom Hill decides to do, he is a Saints legend through and through. He'll either leave for a new team or retire as one of the greatest players to wear the fleur-de-lis on the side of his helmet.
