We're just over a month away from the Kellen Moore era. The New Orleans Saints open up their season in 36 days against the Arizona Cardinals. We continue our countdown to kickoff in a different fashion.
Typically, we feature a play or player in Saints history. This time we take a look back at the longest pass from Kellen Moore's playing days. Today's play of the day is Moore's 36-yard completion to Terrance Williams in Week 17 of the 2015 season.
Moore spent his playing days split between the Dallas Cowboys and Detroit Lions. His career was primarily spent as a back up quarterback, but Moore did get the chance to play in three regular season games, two of which were starts.
Kellen Moore saved the best for last
Moore hit Williams over the middle of the field. Williams was wide open, but Moore showed good accuracy by not leading Williams with the throw. This placement gave Williams the ability to run up field before being chased out of bounds.
That throw was just one small piece of a big time game for Moore. He threw for 435 yards and three touchdowns. These were by far the highest totals of the season for Moore.
Moore stayed in the league for a couple of years after this, but he never saw the field after that game. The Cowboys drafted Dak Prescott the ensuing offseason. When Romo went down with another injury in the 2016 preseason, it was Prescott who took over.
Everyone knew that Week 17 contest was the last of the Cowboys' season, and it ended up being the last snaps of Moore's career as well. Moore's performance against Washington allowed him to go out with a bang.
Moore's 435 passing yards represents over half of his career yardage, and three of Moore's four touchdowns came on that day. Nowadays, the closest the lefty gets to these moments is taking a break to toss the ball to Saints receivers in practice.
