The Saints may have lost, but that didn't stop certain players from impressing.

The Saints second preseason matchup ended in a 17-17 tie against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Although they didn’t win, certain players stood out and helped their chances to make the roster or get higher up the depth chart. These games become more and more important as there is only one more preseason game left.

First off, it’s important to not overreact to the preseason. Just because a player stands out before the year doesn’t mean it will translate to the regular season. However, a player impressing is a good indicator that they are ready to make the jump. It’s telling that they stood out and that should excite fans. It’s completely alright to be hopeful after a great performance.

After saying that, it’s time to get into the three players whose stock is rising after week two of the preseason. I’ve compiled two offensive and one defensive player who impressed this week. I also wanted to note Jaylen Ford and Kendre Miller as honorable mentions who just missed the list.

The three players who stood out against the Jaguars

Mason Tipton

Mason Tipton made this list last week but played even better in week two. Tipton’s combination of speed and route running was on full display. He totaled six receptions for 100 yards against the Jaguars including a near miss from Spencer Rattler that would have resulted in a touchdown. If he didn’t ensure himself a spot on the roster in week one he certainly did after this game. Now, he’s likely vying to be the third wide receiver.

Spencer Rattler

Spencer Rattler had an up and down day but shined late in the game. He responded to throwing an interception in the red zone with a nine play, 82 yard touchdown drive to tie the game. It felt like Tyler Shough held a slight lead after week one, but Rattler countered and returned it to a seemingly tied battle. His late game heroics easily makes him a winner from this game. The Saints will have an impossible decision on who to start during the season.

Jonas Sanker

Jonas Sanker’s game will be remembered by his game saving interception to secure the tie for the Saints, however, he did much more than that. His tackling in the open field was amazing, including a huge hit to prevent a first down. Sanker was also great in coverage; he was everywhere on the field. It looked like the Saints really found something in the rookie out of Virginia.
