The New England Patriots let go of Stefon Diggs, and it continues a revolving door of homes for the former All Pro. Diggs has spent the last three seasons on three different teams, and he'll extend that streak to four in a row. If the New Orleans Saints are his next stop, it could mean a special season is on the horizon for Tyler Shough.
Diggs hasn't missed 1000 yards in a healthy season since 2017. He's a receiver who knows how to get open and is extremely quarterback friendly. In New Orleans, he wouldn't be the top dog, so DIggs' streak may break. From a team perspective, though, Diggs could be part of the solution in the receiver room.
One big concern about bringing Diggs in is his fit within the culture. The Saints are building a strong culture under Kellen Moore centered around camaraderie. The good version of Diggs appears to be supportive and beneficial to that ideology. The bad version of Diggs is often presented as a diva who creates division. That could easily be a risk you don't want to take
Stefon Diggs could continue elevating young quarterbacks with Tyler Shough
For all of the flack sent Diggs' way for his personality, it's been hard to critique his value on the field. One unique trait he's shown a propensity for is elevating quarterbacks to the next level. It's been on display with Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills and most recently with Drake Maye and the New England Patriots.
Helping build up young quarterbacks is essentially what Diggs has been brought in to do ever since leaving the Vikings, and he has an exceptional track record of success. Josh Allen had his breakout season in his first year with Diggs. Simultaneously, Diggs had his breakout season in that first year with Allen. It was a mutually beneficial partnership, but at the time, there was much more faith in Diggs than Allen.
That partnership carried on for seasons. When it ended, Diggs took a trip to Houston to help C.J. Stroud in his sophomore season. It's the only miss on Diggs' record, and he spent half of that season injured. He was brought in with the same mission in Drake Maye's second season in 2025. Maye responded an MVP caliber season.
Whether it's causation or correlation, Diggs has help bolster two young quarterbacks. He's also been an important part of the offense each time. As Shough goes into his sophomore campaign, Diggs could put that same magic on him.
