The New Orleans Saints have lost their second straight game, this time to the San Francisco 49ers. Despite the loss, Saints quarterback Spencer Rattler had a career game.
It was a slow start for Rattler, who started out the game, completing only two passes in the first quarter. However, after the first drive in the second quarter, the second-year quarterback started getting into rhythm.
For once, it would stay that way, as following the first quarter of play, he would complete 22 of 23 passes for 136 yards and three touchdowns. Sunday's performance would also be the first time that he's ever had more than one touchdown pass in a game.
Following the loss, Rattler would say that yes, it is his best performance in black and gold; however, he reiterated that he wants to win.
"You play this game to win. We play together; we battle every week," Rattler said to the media postgame.
"We're so close as a team. I think that we're doing the right things throughout the week; our coaches have us prepared. We just have to go out there and execute at a high level from start to finish."
Despite a career game from Rattler, his sentiments sounded exactly like every Saints fan. They just want to win.
Spencer Rattler had high praise for one key Saints teammate
By the first quarter's end, New Orleans Saints fans would be calling for tight end Juwan Johnson's head. He got off to more than a slow start, dropping what should have been two completions. However, snagging an impressive grab on an 18-yard touchdown.
"He made a big-time catch in a big moment," Saints quarterback Spencer Rattler said postgame. "He made some other plays throughout the game as well. He's a baller."
The Saints' starting tight end would continue getting praise from his quarterback.
"He's a team-first guy. He doesn't care if he has one touch or 10 touches. He's going to play the same way every time." Rattler told the media. "He's going to make those big-time plays. If that's in the block game, if that's in the screen game, or if that's in the pass game, he's going to step up."
By the time the clock hit zero, Johnson would have a total of 49 receiving yards on five receptions. In the 2025 season, his fifth season as a tight end, Johnson now has 125 receiving yards and one touchdown. He has also been targeted 20 times through the first two weeks of the season.
Johnson is currently having the best start to a season he's ever had in his career, and from the looks of it, he's only getting started. The 2025 season might be one to watch for the former wide receiver turned tight end.
